Jim Johnson Statement on the American Health Care Act
Today, Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jim Johnson released the follow statement on the passage of the American Health Care Act by the House of Representatives:
“The American Health Care Act is a cruel and offensive bill that will strip healthcare from millions of Americans and hundreds of thousands of New Jerseyans. The bill will make it exponentially more difficult for people with preexisting conditions to afford care — from mothers with postpartum depression to children born with heart defects — kick our must vulnerable off of Medicaid, and cut taxes for the wealthy at the expense of hard working New Jerseyans.
“Two of our own Congressmen, Reps. MacArthur and Frelinghuysan, voted for this bill while knowing its devastating impact on New Jersey families, which shows we have a lot of work ahead of us in New Jersey. I encourage all New Jerseyans to continue to call and write these Congressman and show up to their town halls and offices to make their voices heard. Healthcare is a human right and now more than ever, we need to come together to fight for it.
“As Governor, I will ensure that people with preexisting conditions are protected by strongly defending our state’s laws mandating community rating and guaranteed issue, enforcing the Affordable Care Act’s provision that insurance companies cannot discriminate based on sex, restoring family funding, funding Planned Parenthood, ensuring coverage for contraception, and fighting for every Medicaid dollar from the federal government.
“As this bill heads to the Senate, Americans must continue to be active in their fight for affordable health care. I will be fighting right alongside of them every step of the way.”
